The Research Project Register contains approved research projects from third-party funds as described in Sec. 41 LHG with a defined data catalog (see Sec. 41a(2) LHG). It serves to provide transparency in third-party funded research at universities.
The project register must include the following data:
Name of research project
Name of participating institutions at the university (faculty, institute), for the DHBW also the cooperation partners
Name of project director
Department and participating professors
Brief description of the project
Project duration
Amount of third-party funds, typically per year
Name of funding organization, separated by public and private funding institutions
Information on non-disclosure agreements and publication restrictions as well as
Information about the topic of dissertations that are being completed together with companies in the third-party-funded project.
Information about the use of genetic resources according to the Nagoya Protocol.
The project register is intended to guarantee transparency in research funded by third parties as defined in Sec. 41a of the State Higher Education Act (LHG).
Data collection
The data is collected by the Finance and Research Promotion Department using the notification of third-party funding. It combines various notification requirements and collects all necessary information in one form.
The completed and signed Notification of Third-Party Funds must be sent to the Third-Party Funding Management in the Tax Matters Unit (AW1) both as an email attachment and a paper copy.
The data saved in the project register are deleted from the database 10 years after the planned project end.
Possibilities for viewing the data: Senate report and individual requests
The project register serves as a basis for the Senate discourse as the academic representation of University members.
“The President reports to the Senate once a year about the general state of the project register” (cf. LHG Sec. 41a(3)).
Besides that, the Senate and University members can request information from the project register. Information requests are to be sent to the President’s Office. Those requesting information as well as scientists and third-party-funding organizations affected by the information can request a confidentiality committee in case of conflict. The committee then gives an advisory vote to the President’s Office.
