Day of Teaching 2023

Friday, 1 December | starting at 1 p.m.

The Hohenheim “Day of Teaching” aims to get people talking about good teaching and to give ideas for developing teaching further. The Day of Teaching will be held for the second time this year and will take place on Friday, 01 December beginning at 1:00 p.m.

With the motto Teaching and Learning with AI – Gamechanger or Game-Over, we are putting together an exciting program for you that invites you to join in the discussion, to help shape the future of studies, and to inspire.

Overview

The futurologist Prof. Dr. Laura Bechthold (TH Ingolstadt) will present perspectives on AI in university teaching in her keynote speech. Her work focuses on issues surrounding the social and ethical consequences of new technologies. In a panel discussion, Prof. Bechthold and the Vice President for Academic Affairs, a department director, and a student representative will discuss the opportunities and risks of teaching and learning with AI.

In parallel workshop sessions, you will gain exciting insights into how AI can become a “gamechanger” and not lead to game-over.

In an interview with the “Hohenheim Teaching Award Winner 2023,” Prof. Dr. Georg Petschenka (Department of Entomology), we find out what distinguishes his approach and understanding of teaching and learning. The Ba-Wü certificates for university didactics will also be awarded to the successful graduates of the program.

The program will be led by Dr. Lisberg-Haag,  who has a great deal of experience in dialogue-oriented formats and workshops on research and higher education policy issues.

The process of academic work can be supported by AI tools such as ChatGPT or beautiful.ai. Students want to use the new opportunities and lecturers are called upon to support them in using the tools productively and responsibly.

At what points in the research process can AI tools be used effectively? Where are the opportunities and where are the risks?

Four DeLLFi teaching projects at the University of Hohenheim will be presented which introduce their students to academic working methods, integrate AI tools into the research process, and teach students how to use these tools.

The workshop will provide an insight into the projects and, above all, enable participants to discuss their experiences.
