Baden-Württemberg SCHOLARSHIP

The Baden-Württemberg Foundation promotes a vibrant Baden-Württemberg with a high quality of life. Since 2001, it has supported the international exchange of students and doctoral candidates by awarding the Baden-Württemberg SCHOLARSHIP.

What is funded? The Baden-Württemberg SCHOLARSHIP provides financial support for a stay abroad at partner universities outside Europe. It is intended to give students the opportunity to mature in their personal development and skills through intercultural experiences, and to develop sensitivity and appreciation towards other cultures.
Who is eligible? Participants in any of the University of Hohenheim’s exchange programs abroad, who receive a place as part of their application for exchange programs abroad.
What does the scholarship consist of?
  • A grant for a maximum of 5 months for stays of one semester and a maximum of 10 months for stays of one year.
  • 600 euros per month

Application procedure

Participants in an overseas exchange program must first apply to the University of Hohenheim via Mobility Online. The link to the application will be published in the respective call for applications in the AA news.

Selected students must then submit a second online application via the BW Foundation portal. Selected students will receive access to the BW Foundation portal by email.
Application documents

The exact application document requirements are published each year in the official call for applications for the Baden-Württemberg SCHOLARSHIP. The application documents must be submitted in English.

 Required application documents usually include the following:

  • Application form
  • Letter of motivation
  • Résumé in table form
  • Current transcript of records
  • If applicable, Bachelor’s degree certificate, if applicable

Selection and award criteria The main criterion is academic performance. Further selection criteria are the academic and personal reasons for the planned stay, as well as voluntary activities. A University of Hohenheim Senate committee makes an initial selection of applicants. Then the final decision on the awarding of scholarships is made by the Baden-Württemberg Foundation.
Responsibilities as a recipient
  • Willingness to act as an ambassador for the University of Hohenheim and the Baden-Württemberg Foundation at the partner university as well as for the respective partner university and the exchange program at the University of Hohenheim.
  • Prepare a final report
Other
  • The committee reserves the right to limit the funding period.
  • The exchange must take place in person. Funding for stays abroad that are completed exclusively digitally from the home country is not permitted under the rules of the Baden-Württemberg Foundation.
  • Scholarships can only be granted if there is no travel warning in place for the host country or region concerned, issued by the Federal Foreign Office.
  • Parallel funding from other sources that serve the same purpose is not possible. This includes the Germany Scholarship.
