Primary selection criteria:
Students in their first year/subject-related semester:
..the certificate of the university entrance qualification (if received abroad, a certified translation and conversion to the German grading system is required), and the grades from the respective study program subject as per the admissions regulations,
or the grades for mathematics and the first foreign language if the admissions regulations do not require individual grades.
Students in the second subject-related semester and higher:
..weighted selection grade:all modules for semesters completed so far.
The determining factor for assigning modules to semesters is the date of the examination.
The weighted score from all selected modules equates to the grade point average of those modules selected.
...Applicants for a Master’s program must submit the degree certificate and transcripts from their first university degree.
Secondary selection criteria:
- awards and recognition for above-average performance at the secondary or tertiary level,
- community activities,
- volunteer work at the university,
- special social, personal, or family-related circumstances or family background (e.g. migrant background*).
*According to the Federal Statistical Office, a person has a migration background if they or at least one of their parents were not born with German citizenship. Specifically, this definition includes immigrant and non-immigrant foreigners, immigrant and non-immigrant naturalized citizens, (late) repatriates, and the descendants of these groups born as Germans. Please include documentation!
Calculation
The primary and secondary selection criteria are assigned a certain number of points.
For primary selection criteria, 40 points are awarded for a grade of 1.0 (4.0 on the GPA scale) and 10 points for a grade of 4.0 (1.0 on the GPA scale).
The points are given in steps of 0.1.
A maximum of 5 points are awarded for each secondary selection criteria (total of 4 criteria). At most, 10 points can be awarded for secondary selection criteria.
