Abstract

When a HfO2-HfS2 mixt. was heated in a graphite matrix at 1720.degree. under 380 kp cm-2 pressure, a small amt. of HfOS single crystals were obtained. HfOS is cubic, space group P213 with a 5.6824(6) .ANG., and isotypic with ZrOS. The structural parameters were refined by use of a 4-circle single crystal diffractometer.
