Women of a certain career level are still underrepresented in companies as well as in the scientific community. The questions why this is so gains in importance due to skill shortages and competition of universities for the best research. In addition to analysing and systematizing the factors leading to underrepresentation, results of 37 in-depth interviews with presidents and equal opportunity officers of both gender successful and less successful universities are compared in order to gain new insights and implications for the rising debate on causes of and possible strategies against underrepresentation.
