Abstract

The fatty acid (FA) pattern of dairy cow diets is changed in rumen metabolism, resulting in differences between dietary and milk FA pattern. The biohydrogenation (BH) of FAs in the rumen affects mainly long chain FAs (> C18), and the form (full fat crushed seed or pure oil) of the supplemented fat might influence the extent of ruminal BH. It was our objective to determine the effect of rapeseed fat, provided in two forms, on milk FA pattern focusing on  C18 FAs composition.
