Eligible for admission are applicants who meet all of the following entry requirements:

A Bachelor’s or equivalent degree completed at a domestic or foreign university that meets the following criteria:

  • program lasted a minimum of three years and awarded a minimum of 180 ECTS credits
  • program with a profile in the natural sciences or engineering.

Accepted are Bachelor’s degrees in:

  • food science and biotechnology
  • food technology
  • food engineering
  • food chemistry
  • biotechnology
  • process technology
  • the Bachelor’s program in Ernährungswissenschaft at the University of Hohenheim

The selection committee may recognize further programs in the natural sciences or engineering as equal to those listed above.

Documented proof of good English language skills (B2 level).

Minimum level required is B2 according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages

Certified copy of your final degree certificate and the transcript of records

including the average grade of your undergraduate degree which provides information on the contents of your previous study program.

If the average grade is not included in your transcript of records, the Registrar’s Office calculates the arithmetic middle of all grades, which will serve as your average grade.

If no certificate is available, please submit a transcript of records covering all your examination results to date, including all grades and the average grade.
If the average grade is not included in your transcript of records, the Registrar’s Office calculates the arithmetic average of all grades, which will serve as your average grade.
The final degree certificate must be submitted by 15 December at the latest for the winter semester for which admission has been granted.

Proof of English language proficiency may be presented as follows:

  • internet based TOEFL test with a minimum of 90 points
  • IELTS certificate with a minimum average of 6.5 point
  • UNIcert II certificate with a minimum grade of “good”
    If 50% of the coursework required for the UNIcert II certificate is completed until the application deadline has passed, you need to attach proof of this to the application for admission.
    The completed UNIcert II certificate is to be handed in before 1 October for the winter semester for which admission has been granted at the latest.

Proof of German language proficiency may be presented as follows:

  • UNIcert I Certificate (min. grade “good”)
  • Goethe Certificate B1: German Certificate (Zertifikat Deutsch)
  • “Deutsches Sprachdiplom der Kultusministerkonferenz”: Level DSD 1
  • TestDAF level TND 3
  • German language test for university admission (Deutsche Sprachprüfung für den Hochschulzugang (DSH)): Level DSH1

If you have already been enrolled in the same or an equivalent Master’s program:

  • documented proof your examination claim for the program is valid and
  • that you are not currently part of any examination process

Language skills of certain levels (see Application documents) are requirements for admission and proof of language proficiency always has to be submitted as part of your application. There are no exceptions.
