Erasmus+ internships (SMP)

The European Union supports not only study exchanges within Europe, but also internships. The support for internships during your studies is integrated in the Erasmus program.
Internships after completing your degree are supported in the context of the Leonardo da Vinci program.

Special support of Erasmus internships

Erasmus+ offers various changes since the project year 2014:

  • Students can receive multiple funding during each study cycle (Bachelor, Master, doctoral studies).
  • Students can receive funding for 12 months of study or internship during each study cycle. For programs with only one study cycle (State Examination, Diplom, etc.), students can receive up to 24 months of funding.
  • Students can receive funding for internships with a minimal duration of 2 months (up to now it was 3 months).
  • The program does not only offer funding for students but also for graduates. However, it is important that the internship is completed within one year after completing the program of study.
  • EU internship agreement between the university, company, and student
  • academic recognition of the internship
  • Contact persons at the home university and the company during the internship
  • Funding of additional costs due to travelling abroad
  • Support during the preparation of the stay abroad (culture, language, organization)
  • Special funding for students with a disability
  • Internships for students: Students have to be enrolled at the University of Hohenheim
  • Internships for graduates: You can do the internship as a graduate, for example between the Bachelor's and the Master’s program (or Diplom) or a state examination. However, it is important that you complete the internship within one year after completing your program. An internship as a graduate is added to the previous study cycle. It is required that you are still enrolled at the moment of application; during the internship however you already have to be exmatriculated. The certificate of exmatriculation, the degree certificate, or a certificate of the university that all coursework has been completed may serve as proof for exmatriculation.
  • Internships at EU institutions and other EU organizations, including specialized agencies  and institutions managing EU programs cannot be funded.
  • Please look at the KOOR/BEST website for more information.

You can apply for funding online. First you have to register at the website of the coordination office. Afterwards you can download the necessary application documents.

Please note that two of the mentioned forms need to be signed by the University of Hohenheim!

  1. Application form
For Point 2 “Erasmus+ Coordinator / Internship Office Director,” please write in Ms. Inga Gerling,  Office of International Affairs.
It also has to be signed by Ms. Gerling (please contact Ms. Martine Renz).

  2. Learning agreement for traineeships
Under point 3, “Departmental Erasmus or placement coordinator,” please put Mr. Ulrich Krieger, Director of the Internship Office. It also has to be signed by him.

Application date

You can apply at any time, but the complete documents have to be submitted to KOOR/BEST at the latest one months before the beginning of the internship. Please take into consideration that you will need some time to put together all documents. Also note that retroactive funding is not possible.

At the moment we don't know how much money will be available for Hohenheim students in the academic year 2011/2012. Because all applicants could be supported in the previous years, all applications will be processed in the order in which they are received. However, we cannot guarantee that all applications will continue to be approved.

There is no legal right to the support or to a particular amount of support. It is therefore advisable to submit the application as soon as possible.

In contrast to study stays abroad with Erasmus+ (SMS), application for internship funding is not done at Hohenheim, but the KOOR/BEST. KOOR/BEST has its office at the Karlsruhe University of Applied Sciences and currently coordinates the Erasmus internship program for 41 universities in Baden-Württemberg. This is the biggest Erasmus consortium in Germany.

Please look at the KOOR/BEST website for further information.
