University of Hohenheim comes top in Agricultural & Food Sciences  [21.11.22]

In the rankings by U.S. News & World Report, the University of Hohenheim is in 1st place in Germany, 9th in Europe, and 39th worldwide / Leading position in all rankings

Germany’s no. 1 for Agricultural Sciences, Food Sciences and Nutritional Sciences: The University of Hohenheim in Stuttgart retains its top position. It is ranked 9th in Europe and 39th worldwide, according to the latest Best Global Universities rankings by U.S. News & World Report in partnership with Clarivate. The University of Hohenheim therefore continues to lead the major international research rankings in Germany in the field of Agricultural Sciences. The University of Hohenheim’s Food Science and Nutritional Science programs also contribute to the good result in “Agricultural Sciences.” This is because their research output is partly attributed to Agricultural Sciences in the Best Global Universities rankings.

The Best Global Universities rankings have been published annually since 2014. Institutions from more than 90 countries are evaluated using 13 indicators to measure global research performance, including global and regional research reputation.

The University of Hohenheim’s excellent position in Agricultural Sciences is also confirmed in other prestigious international subject rankings this year:


Leading European and global universities are well connected

The University of Hohenheim maintains close links with other top universities in the field of Agricultural Sciences. In 2018, the University of Hohenheim joined forces with five leading European universities in bioeconomy to form the European Bioeconomy University (EBU) alliance. Among the partners, Wageningen University and Research (WUR) in the Netherlands is the world leader in agricultural research, the University of Bologna in Italy is listed in the top ten in Europe, and the University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences, Vienna (BOKU), is best in Austria for agricultural research.

Besides the leading WUR, the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences (SLU) is also among the top ten in Europe. For some time now, the University of Hohenheim has maintained close links with these two universities through the Euroleague of Life Sciences (ELLS). In 2023, Ghent University in Belgium and L’Institut Agro in France, among others, will join the network. Both are among the top five in Europe in agricultural sciences. ELLS focuses on joint teaching and learning, as well as student and staff exchange.

Close partnerships exist with other world leading universities. For example, the University of Hohenheim and China Agricultural University (world no. 2) have worked together for several decades.
