Just the first phase of construction is projected to cost 8.3 million euros. It has been made possible thanks to a donation of 4 million euros from the Carl Zeiss Foundation, making up around half of the construction costs. The state of Baden-Württemberg will fund another 4 million euros and the University of Hohenheim will pay 300,000 euros. The Carl Zeiss Foundation and state thereby also support the Bioeconomy strategy, the University of Hohenheim’s interdisciplinary focus. Construction could start as early as the spring of 2016.
