CWUR World University Ranking 2023-24:
University of Hohenheim rises to top 3.9 percent worldwide  [15.05.23]

The Center for World University Rankings (CWUR) lists the University of Hohenheim in 798th place out of over 20,000 universities.

Above all, its research performance garnered high scores: The University of Hohenheim is one of the top 3.9 percent of universities worldwide. That was the result of the CWUR World University Ranking for 2023-24 published on 27 April 2022. In a global comparison, it lists the University of Hohenheim in Stuttgart in 798th place out of more than 20,000 universities. In the previous year, it ranked among the top 4.1 percent. The CWUR ranking is not based on surveys or information provided by the universities to be evaluated, but on objective indicators such as research performance, the quality of teaching and faculties, and on how many alumni are in top positions. The evaluation is calculated according to a point system from 0 to 100. The University of Hohenheim received 71.7 points (previous year: 71.5).

The top three universities in the current CWUR ranking are the same as last year: Harvard University, followed by the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), and Stanford University (all in the USA).

The University of Hohenheim has also placed highly in other renowned international rankings:

  • In the global THE World University Ranking 2023, the University of Hohenheim is among the top 14 percent. The British magazine “Times Higher Education” (THE) publishes this ranking each year, evaluating 1,799 top universities worldwide and assessing the university as a whole. The University of Hohenheim’s research influence plays a significant role, measured by the particularly high number of scientific citations.

The University of Hohenheim occupies top positions in leading subject rankings, particularly in the areas of agricultural research and food sciences but also with its business, economics, and social sciences:

  • In the business, economics, and social sciences, the University made it into the top 250 universities in the world in the THE Ranking by Subject 2023 of the magazine "Times Higher Education" (THE). With group rankings #201-250 in both areas (business/economics and social sciences), the University of Hohenheim is in the top 30 percent of the 870 (Business and Economics) and 941 (Social Sciences) ranked universities, respectively.   • The current Best Global Universities Ranking 2023 places the University of Hohenheim’s agricultural research including food and nutrition science 1st in Germany, 7th in Europe, and 39th in the world. The subject ranking of the U.S. News & World Report magazine is based on the analysis of Clarivate and takes into account research performance and international reputation.   •  The renowned research ranking of the National Taiwan University (NTU Ranking) listed the university as no. 1 in Germany, no. 9 in Europe, and no. 36 in the world. Each year, the NTU evaluates all international scientific publications for the globally respected ranking, assessing their number and quality. The latest issue was published in August 2022.

  •  In its subject ranking, the influential QS World University Ranking lists also the University of Hohenheim’s agricultural research including food science 1st in Germany, 9th in Europe, and 19th worldwide. The analysis by QS Quacquarelli Symonds, a British education provider, annually ranks the best universities primarily by research strength and examines factors such as academic reputation, publications, and citations of individual publications. BACKGROUND: CWUR World University Ranking

The Center for World University Rankings CWUR in the United Arab Emirates has been publishing academic rankings since 2012. The World University Ranking evaluates universities on the basis of seven indicators. The quality of teaching and the question of how many alumni are in high positions are each included in the evaluation with 25 percent, the quality of the faculties with 10 percent.

Research performance is evaluated according to four different criteria and counts for a total of 40 percent (total number of publications, number of publications in high-ranking journals, number of publications in particularly influential journals, number of citations). A total of 20,531 universities were evaluated in the current ranking.
