DFG Funding Atlas:
University of Hohenheim in Top Group for Agricultural Funding  [19.10.22]

"Top group for research funding" according to the funding atlas of the German Research Foundation (DFG) / “Germany’s Number 1 in agricultural research” according to international rankings

A university that makes a lot of its research dollars: In terms of DFG funding for agricultural research, the Universities of Hohenheim and Bonn have remained in 2nd place. The front-runner is the University of Göttingen. Measured by its research results, the University of Hohenheim in Stuttgart even takes first place in Germany. The ranking by funding can be found in the current Funding Atlas, which the DFG published on 5 October 2022. International rankings include the prestigious NTU ranking from National Taiwan University, the Best Global Universities ranking from U.S. magazine U.S. News & World Report, and the QS World University Ranking by Subject from British education provider QS Quacquarelli Symonds.

In the agricultural sciences alone, between 2017 and 2019 the University of Hohenheim received over 8.8 million euros for research projects, which the DFG evaluated as outstanding. This puts the University of Hohenheim, together with the University of Bonn, behind the University of Göttingen (23.5 million euros) and ahead of the Technical University of Munich (7.8 million euros).

For this ranking, the German Research Foundation evaluated all research funds awarded in agricultural sciences, forestry, and veterinary medicine from 2017 to 2019. Because the DFG awards its research funds according to very strict selection criteria, top rankings in the DFG Funding Atlas are clear evidence of an outstanding level of research.

What is remarkable for the University of Hohenheim is that it is in the top group in this subject area even though neither forestry science nor veterinary science are included in its research spectrum. "This proves all the more clearly the performance of Hohenheim's agricultural sciences," concluded President Prof. Dr. Dabbert.

Germany's #1 in research results

Agricultural research at the University of Hohenheim does even better in rankings that directly measure the quality of publications and scientific reputation. Here, the university has clearly held the top position in Germany for years.

The internationality of agricultural sciences is also impressively demonstrated by the DFG Funding Atlas. In the Atlas, the University of Hohenheim is considered one of the most popular host universities for DAAD-funded students in the agricultural sector. With 21 guests from 2015 to 2019, it ranks 2nd out of a total of 30 universities behind the University of Göttingen (30).
