Agricultural Research at the University of Hohenheim once again Germany's No. 1  [09.03.20]

1st place in Germany, 8th in Europe, and 16th worldwide / Agricultural research in top position in Germany in other rankings, as well

Top place for top research: In the agricultural sciences, the University of Hohenheim in Stuttgart is the undisputed leader in the QS World University Ranking by Subject 2020 published last week. In Europe, it is among the top ten in this area, in 8th place. The University of Hohenheim is also one of the world's leading universities in the field of agricultural sciences - it is ranked 16th out of 400 universities listed. The QS World University Ranking by Subject confirms other renowned international research rankings. The detailed results can be seen at: bit.ly/2wwAJaE


The QS World University Ranking by Subject carried out by the British education provider QS Quacquarelli Symonds focuses on research strength. It surveys factors such as academic reputation, publications and citations of individual publications, and the reputation of graduates with employers. This year, the ranking examined a total of 48 subjects.


Agricultural research in top position in Germany in other rankings, as well

The University of Hohenheim’s top position in Germany is also confirmed by all other prominent international rankings:

The renowned research ranking of the National Taiwan University (NTU Ranking) listed the university as no. 1 in Germany, no. 6 in Europe, and no. 20 in the world in 2019. This means that Hohenheim rose one place compared to 2018. Each year, the NTU evaluates all international scientific publications for the globally respected ranking and weights the publications according to scientific productivity, excellence, and influence. The current NTU ranking was published in February 2019.

The current Best Global Universities Ranking places the University of Hohenheim’s agricultural research including food and nutrition science 1st in Germany, 7th in Europe, and 27th in the world. The magazine “U.S. News & World Report” bases its subject ranking on an analysis of Thomson Reuters’ Institute for Scientific Information (ISI) on scientific publications and international reputation. It was published in October 2019.

In the analysis by the CWUR World University Rankings, the University of Hohenheim was the only university in Germany to achieve two top ten rankings in the area of agricultural sciences. Both in plant production and horticulture, the Center for World University Rankings (CWUR) ranked the University 7th worldwide. The CWUR published its evaluation for individual scientific subjects in April 2017.


Top ten placements for University of Hohenheim partners


University of Hohenheim’s partner universities in the network Euroleague for Life Sciences are also among Europe’s top ten: The Universities of Wageningen (Netherlands) and Copenhagen (Denmark) as well as the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences.

The ELLS partner China Agricultural University (CAU) is ranked 10th worldwide. The University of Hohenheim has been cooperating with the CAU for 40 years, including since 2018 in the form of a German-Chinese Research Training Group.
