Germany’s Number 1 in Agricultural Research - Now 15th Worldwide  [27.02.19]

University of Hohenheim still #1 in Germany, #8 in Europe / worldwide moved up from #34 to #15 / Agricultural research also #1 in Germany in other rankings

Germany’s top university for agricultural sciences: According to the QS World University Ranking by Subject 2019 on Wednesday, the University of Hohenheim in Stuttgart retains its top placement in Agricultural Science. For the global ranking, it jumped from #34 to #15. This makes the University of Hohenheim one of the world’s best universities in the area of agricultural sciences. In the leading group internationally, as well: Together with the University of British Columbia in Canada, the University of Hohenheim is in 15th place in den Agricultural Sciences. In comparison to the previous year, the University of Hohenheim improved its global ranking by 19 spots.

In Europe, the University of Hohenheim remains #8. And it was once again able to defend its top position in Germany for Agricultural Sciences.


Agricultural research in Hohenheim #1 in Germany in other rankings, as well


The top position in Germany is also confirmed by all other prominent international rankings:

  • The prestigious NTU Ranking listed the University as no. 1 in Germany, no. 6 in Europe, and no. 21 in the world in 2018. Each year, the NTU evaluates all international scientific publications for the globally respected ranking and weights the publications according to scientific productivity, excellence, and influence. The current NTU Ranking was published in August 2018.

  • The current Best Global Universities Ranking places the University of Hohenheim’s agricultural research including food and nutritional science 1st in Germany, 7th in Europe, and 25th in the world. The magazine “U.S. News & World Report” bases its subject ranking on an analysis of Thomson Reuters’ Institute for Scientific Information (ISI) on scientific publications and international reputation. It was published in the fall of 2018.

  • In the analysis by the CWUR World University Rankings, the University of Hohenheim was the only university in Germany to achieve two top ten rankings in the area of agricultural sciences. Both in plant production and horticulture, the Center for World University Rankings (CWUR) ranked the University 7th worldwide. The CWUR published its first evaluation for individual scientific subjects in April 2017.


Top Ten Placements for University of Hohenheim Partners

The University of Hohenheim’s partner universities in the network Euroleague for Life Sciences are also among Europe’s top ten: The Universities of Wageningen (Netherlands) and Copenhagen (Denmark) as well as the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences. The international ELLS partner university China Agricultural University is number 10 worldwide.

The renowned World University Ranking by Subject from the British educational institute QS Quacquarelli Symonds focuses on research strength and looks at factors like academic reputation, publications, and citations of individual publications. In all, the QS World University Rankings by Subject looked at 48 subjects this year. In the area of Agricultural and Forestry Sciences, 300 universities were ranked.
