BACKGROUND: CWUR World University Ranking

The Center for World University Rankings CWUR in the United Arab Emirates has been publishing academic rankings since 2012. The World University Ranking evaluates universities on the basis of seven indicators. The quality of teaching accounts for 25 percent of the ranking and is measured based on the academic success of alumni – relative to the size of the university. Equally important (25 percent) is the graduates’ professional standing. The faculty's academic quality is weighted at 10 percent, based on the number of lecturers who have received prestigious academic awards.

Research performance is evaluated according to four different criteria and counts for a total of 40 percent (total number of publications, number of publications in high-ranking journals, number of publications in particularly influential journals, number of citations). A total of 21,291 universities were evaluated in the current 2026 ranking.
