Structure determination by NMR of azadirachtin and related compounds from Azadirachta indica A. Juss (Meliaceae)

Two novel limonoids, 3-deacetyl-3-cinnamoylazadirachtin (I; R = OH, R1 = COCMe:CHMe, R2 = COCH:CHPh) and 1-tigloyl-3-acetyl-11-methoxyazadirachtinin (II), were isolated from A. indica exts. in addn. to I (R = OH, R1 = COCMe:CHMe, R2 = Ac), 22,23-dihydro-23.beta.-methoxyazadirachtin (III) and I (R = R1 = H, R2 = COCMe:CHMe). The assignment of the structures of I (R = R1 = H, R2= COCMe:CHMe; R = OH, R1 = COCMe:CHMe, R2 = COCH:CHPh)-III and the reassignment of the structure of I (R = OH, R1 = COCMe:CHMe, R2 = Ac) was achieved on the basis of detailed 1H- and 13C-NMR analyses.
