The present study aimed to determine basal ileal endogenous losses (IAAend) and standardized ileal digestibility (SID) of CP and AA in triticale fed to growing pigs. Eight ileally cannulated barrows (31 ± 2 kg initial BW) were allotted to an 8 × 8 Latin square design. Triticale genotypes (10.5 to 11.8% CP, as-fed basis) were the sole dietary CP source. The IAAend and SID of AA were determined by linear regression analysis between the dietary concentrations of apparent ileal digestible (AID) and total AA. There were linear relationships (P ≤ 0.05) between concentrations of AID CP and AA and the dietary concentrations of CP and AA. Estimates of IAAend and SID of CP and AA in triticale amounted to 34.0 g CP/kg DMI (102%), 1.5 g Arg/kg DMI (103%), 0.6 g His/kg DMI (102%), 1.2 g Ile/kg DMI (105%), 1.9 g Leu/kg DMI (103%), 1.2 g Lys/kg DMI (95%), 0.5 g Met/kg DMI (108%), 1.2 g Phe/kg DMI (100%), 1.5 g Thr/kg DMI (103%), 0.4 g Trp/kg DMI (98%), and 1.4 g Val/kg DMI (102%). Use of the regression analysis in the present study to estimate basal endogenous CP and AA losses at the ileal level with different triticale genotypes resulted in greater IAAend in pigs fed cereal-based diets compared with average IAAend previously determined under N-free feeding conditions. This indicates that CP and AA in triticale are highly digestible in pigs.
