Abstract

Degradation of phytate (InsP6) in the rumen may vary between feedstuffs due to differences in type of phytate complexes in the plant matrix and variation in phytase production by rumen bacteria. The latter may be affected by the concentrations of InsP6 and mineral P in the diet. Our objective was to compare InsP6 degradation in different feedstuffs in vitro and in situ when varying the composition of diets fed to the animals.
