Description

Two solar powered pumps of the German producer Lorenz are installed in wells in remote Ningxia Hui for small scale irrigation Graduate students of Hohenheim and CAAS work together to evaluate the applicability of solar pumps under the local conditions. Technical and socio-economic parameters are considered and contrasted to conventional technology (diesel pumps). The cost-benefit analysis includes a carbon-emission balance for manifacturing and operation. A subsidy cum public finance scheme is devised and formulated as a draft new methodology for a small-scale CDM project activity under the Kyoto Protocol.
