Your vocational training follows the dual system, which means it takes place both at the university and at the vocational school (Max-Eyth-Schule, Stuttgart).

You will learn how to build machines and manufacturing equipment, commission them, and ensure they remain in good working order through maintenance and repairs.

In return, you'll learn the basics of filing, drilling, sawing, turning, and milling. You’ll apply these techniques directly in your turning and milling work. In your second year of the apprenticeship, you will deepen your knowledge of pneumatics, electro-pneumatics, and CNC milling and turning. In this process, precision engineering equipment and precise individual and small components made of various metals and plastics are manufactured in-house – based on technical drawings and work plans.

A large part of the training involves teamwork, and the activities must be coordinated with the upstream and downstream departments.

During their training, apprentices attend in-house seminars to supplement their vocational school education and to enhance their hands-on learning.

The final examination consists of two parts:

  • The examination consists of completing a complex task that includes situational discussion segments and written assignments. The individual examination sections are closely related to one another both thematically and chronologically.
  • Part 2 of the final examination consists of the following examination areas: a work assignment with an accompanying technical discussion, order and functional analysis, manufacturing technology, and economics and social studies.

What happens after completing the apprenticeship: As a modern and forward-looking employer, we strive to offer our apprentices the opportunity to continue working with us after they complete their apprenticeship. A permanent position requires an open budgeted position. This practical, high-quality apprenticeship opens up a wide range of career opportunities for you even outside the University of Hohenheim – for example, in manufacturing facilities and workshops across a wide variety of industries.
