Applying for International Business and Economics

Before you apply for a degree program, please read the information about the requirements, the selection criteria, and the required documents.
This will make the application process much easier for you and helps you to avoid mistakes and delays.

How to apply

Applications can only be submitted in electronic form via our application system.  To apply, enter your details and upload the required (scanned) documents to our application system. Printouts are not required during the application process.

You can use the application system starting four weeks before the application deadline.

  1. Completed Bachelor's degree in Business Administration and Economics or degree in the fields of business administration, management, and economics of at least 6 semesters from a domestic or foreign university or in an equivalent degree program.

    Applicants who have not yet completed their Bachelor's degree can apply with an academic transcript showing the average grade of the courses and examinations completed. If you are admitted, the final degree certificate must be submitted by 15 December at the latest.

  1. A declaration by the applicant that English is their native language AND
  2. another document from an English-language qualification, e.g., A-level, OR a document such as a school transcript that shows English as a native language.

Proof of English language skills must be submitted before the application deadline and the test result must not be older than two years. We do not accept "institutional" TOEFL tests. We also do not recognize English language skills that are only proven by stays or semesters abroad.

The TOEFL institution code for Hohenheim is 8436.

If the number of qualified applicants exceeds the total number of available university places, a selection will be made according to the following criteria:

  • Overall grade of the Bachelor's degree or average grade of all coursework and examinations to date (60%)
  • Result of the subject-specific aptitude test (40%)

What is a study aptitude test?
A study aptitude test checks skills that are particularly important for a student’s success in a degree program.

Why is the test a criterion for the Master’s International Business and Economics?
It is an objective tool (all applicants have the same requirements) to see whether the applicant has a good chance to complete the Master's program successfully.

Why should I take an aptitude test?
With the aptitude test, you increase your chance of being admitted to the program. The aptitude test counts for 40% in the selection process.

What test should I submit if I have taken multiple tests?
You may submit the test with the best result. It must be no more than 2 years old, but does not have to be your most recent test result.

Please upload scanned versions of your documents in German or English. If the original document is not in English, we require a scanned version of a certified translation in German or English. The originals of all documents must be presented at the time of enrollment.

The following documents are required:

  • Bachelor's degree certificate in the fields of Business Administration and Economics, Management, or Economics or academic transcript of records stating the average grade/points
  • Proof of English language skills
  • Results of the study aptitude test (optional)
  • APS certificate (only for applicants from China, Vietnam, Mongolia, and India)

Yes, that is possible.

You can apply for up to three different degree programs at the University of Hohenheim. Please note, however, that you must submit separate application documents for each degree program, as the documents are forwarded to different admission committees.

You can apply twice a year for higher subject-related semesters. The application deadlines are 15 May and 15 January of each year.

Please note that there are only university places for higher subject-related semesters if the cohort is not full because there are only 65 university places per year. In addition, applicants must have already completed at least 30 ECTS per semester by the application deadline.

There is no special application deadline for international applicants. The application deadline for all applicants is 15 May for the first semester.

The scores vary from application year to application year and depend on the applications received.

You do not need any German language skills, however, a B1 level is highly recommended to master your stay at the university.

All administrative documents such as admission and examination regulations are in German. In addition, you can choose from a larger list of elective modules.
