Since 2000

Hohenheim today

Individual and unique: this is how the University of Hohenheim presents itself today in research and teaching as a highly specialized and internationally oriented university with a unique range of subjects.

2001: Rector Constitution

After the University Act from 2000, in November 2001 the Senate established the “Rector Constitution.”

Since the turn of the millennium, a large number of new structures have been established in Hohenheim. In addition to the change from the presidential to the rector constitution, five faculties were merged into three: Natural Sciences; Agricultural Sciences; and Business, Economics and Social Sciences.

2007: The University began to grow quickly

Within 5 years, the University of Hohenheim received 18 new professorships and grew to 10,000 students - double the number there were in 2000.

This was made possible by the “Expansion Program 2012” with which the state government wanted to create enough university places for the years with a higher number of births. In addition, in 2012 two classes completed their Abitur at the same time: That year, both the last class of the old 9-year secondary school model and the first class of the new 8-year secondary school model graduated together.

27 June 2012: Re-introduction of the Student Parliament

The re-introduction of the Student Parliaments in Baden-Württemberg, which were dissolved in 1977, was decided.

The democratically elected Student Parliament works for the students’ interest and thus improves conditions for studying.

2013: Bioökonomie

Since 2013, the bioeconomy has been part of the University's scientific focus.

Today, the University of Hohenheim has almost 10,000 students and more than 150 professors. The brand essence includes imparting top qualifications and have open-mindedness, an orientation on society, transparency, and a moderate size. The University’s scientific focus areas are Global Food Security, and Ecosystems as well as Health Sciences. Since 2013, Bioeconomy has also been one of the core research areas.

2018: The University celebrated its 200th anniversary

200th anniversary of the University of Hohenheim

Together, the President and students raised the anniversary flag to kick off the anniversary year on 27 January 2018. This was followed by a year of celebrations with over 200 events covering the whole spectrum of university life, research, art, and culture. A special highlight was a light show projected onto 30 by 80 meters of Palace facade at the anniversary kick-off. Equally outstanding was the ceremony on November 20 as the foundation day with Hohenheim alumnus and Minister President Winfried Kretschmann and 500 invited guests of honor from 20 countries.
