FAQ - Housing for International Researchers

There are no fixed dates to when you must request a room, but it is in both your and our favor to send a request as early as possible to have higher chances of reserving a room. However, please refrain from sending requests more than six months in advance.

As stated on your booking confirmation, cancellation is possible until two weeks prior to moving in. If the cancellation is made later, we will charge you the number of days that you were too late to cancel.

A stay of one month is the shortest, for a shorter stay we recommend booking a hotel room. The total rental period should not exceed one year; however, we issue the provisional leases for half a year for the time being.

As soon as the booking confirmation has been sent, the room is considered to be occupied. For the booking confirmation we need the filled-out online form, which you can find on our website.

In guesthouse Huberta all rooms are the same price. In guesthouse Marie-Berta the smallest room is the cheapest, and the guest rooms Margarete are also cheap but not as luxurious since they are only two rooms without a cooker (cooking just by microwave). Of course, we try to fulfill your wishes. However, the first reservation has priority - if the room is already occupied, we cannot do anything about it.

The guesthouses are not hotels, since we do not have any kind of reception and cannot be reached 24 hours a day. Furthermore, your room is to be cleaned by yourself, shared rooms (kitchen and bathroom) are cleaned regularly. Since you are sharing the spaces with others, we ask you to clean your dishes directly after use and to keep the common spaces tidy. We try to make your stay as pleasant as possible, and in case of problems we are of course there for you. A further difference is the price, since a room in a guesthouse is much cheaper than in a hotel in the long run.

Usually directly after arrival from us or after consultation from your contact person of the corresponding institute. We have also installed key safes at the guest houses, so that you can easily get to your room in case of late arrival/arrival on the weekend/etc.

In our guesthouses Huberta and Marie-Berta a maximum of two people in one room is possible. Therefore we recommend families to book several rooms or to look for an apartment on your own.

In our guestrooms Margarete a double occupancy is not achievable.

Because of the last-minute changes due to cancellations we cannot offer this information. You will meet your housemate at your arrival day.

Yes that is possible. Our guesthouses Huberta and Marie-Berta are ideal for this purpose.

Visitors are welcome in any case. Nevertheless, we expect an early information to us and your roommates as soon as a guest is expected. Preferably already at the time of registration, then we can directly occupy a double room. By arrangement, a maximum of one guest per room may stay for one night. We can provide extra beds or bed linen on a limited basis by arrangement.

Cancellation is only necessary if the move out of the room is to take place earlier than stated on the lease. Notice must be given no later than 14 days prior to the desired move-out date.

Payment by bank transfer is preferred, however payment in cash is also possible. Since we are not allowed to handle cash, the money will have to be given to the universities’ cash office. If you need more information on how to do this, let us know. Please pay the invoice within two weeks after you receive it via mail.
