You must have completed a Bachelor's degree or a comparable university degree program of at least three years in social sciences (especially communication sciences, sociology, psychology, political science) with a university degree of at least good (2.5) or equivalent.

A degree program in the social sciences is recognized if it has at least 70 credits from modules or courses that focus on social science theories, methods, and findings.

Courses in the area of social scientific methodology totaling at least 15 credits.

Courses will be counted as “social science methodology” if the title indicates that they deal with knowledge and competencies in one of the following areas:

  • Social science methodology (science theory and logic)
  • Research process and logic (e.g. measurement, selection procedures, research designs)
  • Quantitative and qualitative methods of data collection (e.g. surveys, content analysis, observation)
  • Quantitative and qualitative methods of data analysis (e.g. statistics, document analysis)

Basic knowledge of quantitative research methods and/or statistics is recommended.

In addition, courses will be counted as “social science methodology” if additional knowledge on social science methods was conveyed by carrying out independent empirical research even though this is not evident in the title of the course. In this case, an additional description must state what knowledge of social science methodology was conveyed in which of the areas mentioned above..
