You can be admitted to the Master’s program in Food Chemistry if you fulfill the following prerequisites:

Bachelor's degree from a German or foreign university

  • in Food Chemistry with at least 180 ECTS credits at least a 3-year standard period of study or
  • in an equivalent related degree program with a chemical-analytical profile with an above-average final grade, proven by the grade "good" or better (e.g., Chemistry, Nutritional Science, Food Science and Biotechnology, Environmental Chemistry)
In addition, the selection committee may recognize other related degree programs as equivalent.

Very good German language skills

  • At least level C1 in the European Framework of Reference of Languages

In the selection procedure, points are awarded for the individual selection criteria. The evaluation of the individual selection criteria is done according to set guidelines which will be described in the following. The maximum score that can be achieved is 34.

Based on the total scores, a ranking list is determined, which serves as the basis for admission. The total score is created with:

  • 70% from the average grade of the first degree program or the average grade of exams already taken
  • 30% from the subject-specific coursework and examinations
  • 10% from outstanding academic achievements
  • 5% from relevant practical work experience or vocational training

Subject-specific coursework and examinations (max. 10 points)

Transcript of records and the certificate of the completed university studies with average grade

If the degree certificate is not yet available, an overview of the examination results up to that point must be enclosed. If no average grade is shown on the transcript of records, it is calculated using the arithmetic average of the grades obtained so far.

The degree certificate must be submitted no later than December 31 of the year for which admission is requested.

Documentation of subject-specific knowledge

Proof of German language skills (at least level C1)

  • German university entrance qualification (HZB)
  • German Bachelor´s Degree
  • TestDaF (at least level TDN4 in all four test areas)
  • DSH (at least level DSH-2)
  • DSD (at least level II; German language diploma from the Kultusministerkonferenz)
  • Goethe Certificate C2: "Großes Deutsches Sprachdiplom" from the Goethe Institute
  • Deutsche Sprachprüfung II (Munich Language and Interpretation Institute (SDI))

If you were already enrolled in a Master’s degree program:

  • Proof that the right to take examinations in the degree program for which admission is sought or a related degree program still exists
  • Proof that you are not currently involved in an ongoing exam procedure
