Eligible for admission are applicants who meet all of the following entry requirements:

A Bachelor’s or equivalent degree completed at a domestic or foreign university that meets the following criteria:

  • program lasted a minimum of three years and awarded a minimum of 180 ECTS credits
  • program with a profile in the natural or agricultural sciences or geoscience.
The selection committee may recognize further programs.

Documented proof of good English language skills

Minimum level required is B2 according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages

The assessment of the individual criteria is done according to set guidelines which will be described in the following. For each criterion, a set number of points will be given. A maximum of 45 points may be achieved.

On the basis of the total points achieved by each eligible applicant, a ranking list is created which is the basis for admissions. The ranking list is based on:

  • 2/3 overall grade of the undergraduate degree or the average grade of exams already taken
  • 1/3 subject-specific academic achievements

The final grade of the Bachelor’s degree or the grade point average of the examinations completed thus far (max. 30 points)

Subject-specific coursework (max. 15 points)

may be credited, if modules from the following fields were completed: physics, mathematics, chemistry.
5 points are awarded for every bachelor-level subject-specific field completed.

Final degree certificate and the transcript of records

including the average grade, of your undergraduate degree, which provides information on the contents of your previous study program.

If no certificate is available, please submit a transcript of records covering all your examination results to date, including all grades and the average grade.
If the average grade is not included in your transcript of records, the Registrar’s Office calculates the arithmetic middle of all grades, which will serve as your average grade. The final degree certificate must be submitted by 15 December at the latest for the winter semester for which admission has been granted.

Proof of English language proficiency

  • internet based TOEFL test with a minimum of 90 points
  • IELTS certificate with a minimum average of 6.5 point
  • UNIcert II certificate with a minimum grade of “good” If 50% of the coursework required for the UNIcert II certificate will be completed by the time of the application deadline, you need to attach proof of this to the application for admission.The completed UNIcert II certificate is to be handed in at the latest by 1 October for the winter semester for which admission has been granted.
For possible exemptions please consult the Admission Regulations (in German).

If you have already been enrolled in the same or an equivalent Master’s program:

  • documented proof your examination claim for the program is valid and
  • that you are not currently part of any examination process
