You may be admitted to the Master’s program in Biology if you fulfill the following prerequisites:

a degree (minimum 3 years of study) from a German or foreign university

  • with at least 180 ECTS credits

Bachelor’s programs with the following biological concentrations will be recognized:

  • Biology
  • Agricultural Biology (University of Hohenheim)
  • Nutrition Science (University of Hohenheim)
  • Food Science and Biotechnology (University of Hohenheim)

In addition, the selection committee may recognize other natural science study programs as equivalent.

good German language skills

at least level C1 in the Common European Framework of Reference of Languages

good English language skills

at least level B2 in the Common European Framework of Reference of Languages

The evaluation of the individual criteria is done according to set guidelines which will be described in the following. The respective criteria are assigned points. In the process, a maximum of 100 points can be assigned.

Creation of the ranking list

For the creation of the ranking list, the total number of points will be used. The final number of points is calculated as follows:

  • 50 % of the total points will be from the overall grades from the first degree or the average grade of exams already taken,
  • 40% will be from subject-specific grades,
  • 5% will be from grades in the basic areas of natural sciences,
  • and 5% will be made up of relevant practical and professional activities or completed professional training.

In recognizing grades and proof which were given outside of the Federal Republic of Germany, the equivalence agreements from the Standing Conference of Education Ministers and the German Rectors’ Conference as well as agreements in the context of the university partnerships will be taken into consideration.

Transcript of records and the certificate of the completed university studies with average grade

If the degree certificate is not yet available, an overview of the examination results up to that point must be enclosed. If no average grade is shown on the transcript of records, it is calculated using the arithmetic average of the grades obtained so far.
The degree certificate must be submitted no later than December 31 of the year for which admission is requested.

Proof of German language skills (at least level C1)
