In the doctoral study program, an advisory team from several areas assists the doctoral candidates throughout their entire doctorate. To expand their subject expertise and interdisciplinary skills, the doctoral candidates complete 3 modules and take part in seminars and conferences.

In the first three years of their doctorate, students must attend and pass 3 modules. This are set up for all doctoral candidates regardless of their year and serve to further qualify the candidates in terms of theory, methods, and subject-area knowledge.

The University of Hohenheim offers research training groups with various topical focuses. Here, students can attend interdisciplinary seminars and network with other doctoral candidates.

  • Soil Resources and Landscape Ecology
  • Plant Production Systems, Plant Nutrition, and Quality Assurance
  • Plant Breeding, Plant Protection, and Biotechnology
  • Animal Sciences and Biotechnology
  • Agricultural and Environmental Technology
  • Business, Economics and Social Sciences in Agricultural and Nutritional Sciences
  • Tropical Agricultural, Nutritional, and Resource Sciences
  • Global Food Security
  • Water for Life

The research training groups “Global Food Security” and “Water for Life” can only be chosen if the dissertation is being written in English.

Besides the set modules and seminars, during their doctorate the students must attend at least one national or international conference. They must present the results of their doctorates as a poster or lecture.

The goal of the doctoral study program is to support students on their path to obtaining a doctorate in Agricultural Sciences. This means:

  • that a team will assist you in reaching your goal in a timely manner
  • that you will obtain methodological, subject-area, and interdisciplinary expertise and skills in the accompanying modules
  • that you will expand your scientific qualifications with participation in seminars and conferences
  • that you will be integrated in research and teaching operations
  • that you will work on topics that are not just relevant for science, as your work will also contribute to solving global social problems

The professions are just as varied as the topics in which doctoral work can be done. They also depend on the previous Master’s program.
