There are many opportunities to learn in groups, good access to teaching materials, a high-quality learning environment, opportunities for social interaction, a good practical orientation, support in finding internships, and good preparation for professional life: Students at the University of Hohenheim give their university good grades in teaching. That is why the majority of respondents would also choose to study in Hohenheim again and recommend the university to others.
That is the result of the first Times Higher Education (THE) Europe Teaching Rankings, which was presented yesterday. 52 students from the University of Hohenheim participated in the survey - giving their university a spot among the top ten in Germany.
At the European level, the University of Hohenheim also had good results: of over 240 universities from all over Europe, it was placed in the ranking group #101-125. The first two spots were taken by the Universities of Oxford and Cambridge in Great Britain followed by the French university Sorbonne. Times Higher Education Europe Teaching Rankings
The Times Higher Education Europe Teaching Rankings currently includes universities from eight countries: Great Britain, Spain, Germany, Italy, France, the Netherlands, Portugal, and Ireland. It is currently still in the pilot phase. The results are based primarily on the THE European Student Survey - a survey of more than 30,000 students complemented by data from the universities’ websites or statistical offices.
The questions cover four major areas: How much does the university support its students? How are resources for teaching? What are the results? And what is the quality of the learning environment? For example, students are asked whether teaching encourages critical thinking, whether the lessons are a challenge or students have the possibility to interact with instructors. Support in preparing for professional life is also a topic.
The THE Europe Teaching Rankings focuses on teaching and Europe. It is therefore different from the THE World University Rankings, which concentrate on research excellence at the global level.
