University of Hohenheim remains Germany's No. 1 in agricultural research  [11.05.22]

1st place in Germany, 8th in Europe, and 19th worldwide / Agricultural research in top position in Germany in all international rankings

Germany's top university in agricultural sciences: The University of Hohenheim in Stuttgart remains unchallenged in its first place position in the QS World University Ranking by Subject 2022 published recently. In Europe, it is among the top ten in this area, in 8th place. The University of Hohenheim is also one of the world's leading universities in the field of agricultural sciences - it is ranked 19th out of 410 universities listed. The QS World University Ranking by Subject carried out by the British education provider QS Quacquarelli Symonds focuses on research strength. It surveys factors such as academic reputation, publications and citations of individual publications, and the reputation of graduates with employers. This year, the ranking examined a total of 51 subjects.


Agricultural research in top position in Germany in other rankings, as well

The University of Hohenheim’s top position in Germany is also confirmed by all other prominent international rankings:

- The renowned research ranking of the National Taiwan University (NTU Ranking) listed the university as no. 1 in Germany, no. 8 in Europe, and no. 27 in the world. Each year, the NTU evaluates all international scientific publications for the globally respected ranking, assessing their number and quality. The latest issue was published in September 2021. - The current Best Global Universities Ranking 2021 places the University of Hohenheim’s agricultural research including food and nutrition science 1st in Germany, 7th in Europe, and 34th in the world. The subject ranking of the U.S. News & World Report magazine is based on the analysis of Clarivate Analytics InCites and takes into account research performance and international reputation. - In the area of Life Sciences, the University also made it into the top 300 universities in the world in the THE Ranking by Subject 2021 of the magazine "Times Higher Education" (THE). With the group placement #251-300 the University of Hohenheim is in the top third of the 972 life sciences universities ranked. According to the THE Ranking, the life sciences include agricultural sciences, biology, veterinary medicine, and sports science. To the press release:

Top placements for University of Hohenheim partners

The other universities that were with Hohenheim in the top group of agricultural research are quite familiar. Together with five leading European universities in the field of bioeconomy, the University of Hohenheim joined forces in the European Bioeconomy University (EBU) network. Three of the partners - Wageningen University in the Netherlands, the University of Bologna in Italy, and the University of Natural Resources and Applied Life Sciences Vienna in Austria - are the best in their respective countries in the field of agricultural research.

In addition to Wageningen University (Netherlands) and the University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences Vienna (Austria), the top ten in Europe also include the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences (Sweden) and the University of Copenhagen (Denmark). The University of Hohenheim has long cooperated closely with the Universities of Wageningen and Copenhagen within the Euroleague of Life Sciences (ELLS). This network is made up of joint degree programs and intensive exchange of students and instructors.

The non-European ELLS partner China Agricultural University (CAU, China) is ranked 5th worldwide. The University of Hohenheim has been cooperating with the CAU for around 40 years, including since 2018 in the form of a German-Chinese Research Training Group.
