BACKGROUND: CWUR World University Ranking
The Center for World University Rankings CWUR in the United Arab Emirates has been publishing academic rankings since 2012. The World University Ranking evaluates universities on the basis of seven indicators. The quality of teaching accounts for 25 percent of the ranking and is measured on the basis of the academic success of alumni – in each case in relation to the size of the university. The professional positioning of graduates is just as heavily weighted (25 percent). The academic quality of the faculty is taken into account at 10 percent, measured by the number of lecturers honored with prestigious academic awards.
Research performance is evaluated according to four different criteria and counts for a total of 40 percent (total number of publications, number of publications in high-ranking journals, number of publications in particularly influential journals, number of citations). A total of 21,462 universities were evaluated in the current ranking.
