Research ranking from National Taiwan University (NTU Ranking) has awarded the university one of the top places in Germany since 2014 / no. 22 in Europe, no. 86 worldwide
In agricultural sciences – including food and nutritional sciences as well as horticultural sciences – the ranking of the National Taiwan University (NTU) certifies that the University of Hohenheim in Stuttgart once again has a particularly high level of research. The University of Hohenheim ranks 3rd in Germany, 22nd in Europe, and 86th worldwide. The NTU Ranking by Subjects for 2026 was published on 20 August 2026. 3rd place in Germany for the University of Hohenheim: With a points total of 43.0 in the NTU Ranking, it finished this year behind Technical University of Munich (43.8 points) and Georg August University of Göttingen (45.0 points) in agricultural sciences. Hohenheim has been continuously in the leading pack since 2014.
Each year, the NTU evaluates all international scientific publications for the globally respected ranking and weights the publications according to scientific productivity, excellence, and influence. This year’s ranking included 1,917 of the world’s top universities.
NTU Ranking: For the subject of agricultural sciences, the NTU ranking also includes food science and technology, horticulture, and nutritional science and dietetics.
International cooperation links the top universities
The university maintains long-standing close partnerships with the global leaders in agricultural research.
Through the Euroleague for Life Sciences (ELLS), the University of Hohenheim has been closely linked to Wageningen University in the Netherlands – Europe’s No. 1 – and many other leading universities in their respective countries for decades. The alliance also includes, for instance, L'Institut Agro in France, BOKU University in Vienna, or the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences (SLU). ELLS places its faith in joint degree programs and intensive exchange of students and lecturers.
In the European Bioeconomy University (EBU), the University of Hohenheim likewise cooperates with Wageningen University and six other leading European universities on the topic of the bioeconomy. They have joined forces in this initiative to promote the bioeconomy as a sustainable way of doing business in Europe.
The undisputed world No. 1 in agricultural sciences – China Agricultural University – and the University of Hohenheim have been working together on numerous projects for decades. Currently, for example, there is cooperation in the AMAIZE-P German-Chinese DFG Research Training Group on the sustainable use of phosphorus.

BACKGROUND: NTU – National Taiwan University Ranking
The Performance Ranking of Scientific Papers for World Universities, also known as NTU Ranking, has been published annually by National Taiwan University since 2007. In 2011, the NTU Ranking by Subject was added. The selection of the 1,917 universities included in the 2026 ranking was once again based on stringent criteria.
The NTU Ranking evaluates the research performance of universities based on objective indicators. The focus is primarily on scientific publications. A total of eight indicators with different weightings are used for the overall evaluation, providing information on research productivity (25%), research impact (35%), and research excellence (40%).
