Abstract

1st communication: Effect on reproductive performance Abstract: The effect on reproductive performance of rabbits of three diets was studied at the breeding-station of the GTZ-ONERA-Rabbit project in Bobo-Dioulasso, Burkina Faso. Mixtures were: 50% brewer's grain and 50% millet bran, 50% wheat bran and 50% maize bran and an industrial com- pound feed. Data of 173 does with 483 parturitions were available for analysis of number and weight of pubs at birth, 21st day and weaning (33rd day) as weIl as amount offered used per weight gain of pubs until the 21st day and weaning. Average number of pubs born alive per litter was 5,5, number of pubs weaned was 3,8 and average pub weight at weaning was 470 g. The average amount offered used until weaning was 4,3 9 per 9 pub live weight gain. Average farrowing interval was 63 days, average pre-weaning mortality was 32 %. Highest performance in all traits was achieved- ed with industrial compound feed but results indicate that bran and brewer's grain can be used in high quantity in rabbit diets with satisfying animal performance.
