Abstract

Inspection of the incisors of wild grass-cutters captured and grass-cutters born in captivity showed that all incisors were faultless. Experiments were carried out with grass-cutters in order to study the elements facilitating incisor attrition and to analyse the effect on incisor wear of vitamin C distributed in the daily ration. Mostly metal and wood (in this order) were used for mechanical incisor wear. The hypothesis of an a-vitaminosis C being the possible cause of an excessive incisor growth, was not established. Give to the animals different materials, varied feed and let them quiet were the best and most adequate measures to avoid losses resulting from tooth problems.
