Hohenheim's breeders day (in English)The State Plant Breeding Institute of the University of Hohenheim works intensively on the breeding of specialty wheat (Durum, Spelt, Emmer and Einkorn) as well as on pre-breeding for grain yield in bread wheat. With these methods, important screening concepts for genetic resources have been developed and are routinely used (cf. hybrid production and test with genetic resources). Furthermore, a large pre-breeding program for bread wheat has been established that in the future will regularly deliver new lines carrying novel diversity in an improved background for the direct use as parents of elite breeders. The idea of the breeder’s day is that you get an impression about what we are doing, that the new pre-breeding lines are no longer wild material, and that you deliver your ideas and feedback to us for improving our system and pre-breeding lines.
