EASP Meeting: Social Dynamics of Climate Policy and Sustainable Transformation – Acceptance, Conflict and Cooperation
Wissenschaftliche Konferenz ausgerichtet vom Fachgebiet Nachhaltiges Handeln und Wirtschaften (Jun.-Prof. Laura Henn) sowie der Nachwuchsgruppe Digitaler Wandel und Gesellschaft (Dr. Adrian Lüders).
The transition toward sustainable societies is not only a technological challenge but also a deeply social one. How do different communities respond to climate policies? What drives polarization or cooperation in environmental debates? How can trust in key stakeholders be strengthened to foster effective action? These and similar questions are increasingly discussed by scholars in social and environmental psychology. Yet, we are only beginning to understand the social dynamics that shape individual and collective appraisals of climate policies and sustainable transformation. Understanding the causes of people’s support for or resistance against climate policy and the dynamics that further these processes, is vital to promote societal transformation, prevent conflict, and ultimately, mitigate climate change.
The meeting serves to explore the intricate social dynamics shaping climate policies and their implementation. We aim to bring together researchers from social and environmental psychology as well as neighbouring disciplines to discuss recent developments in research at the intersection of these fields. The key goal is to integrate these different perspectives to strengthen the connections between researchers working on different aspects of the social dynamics of climate policy and sustainable transformation. We seek to develop new research ideas and collaborations across labs and disciplines, potentially forming the foundation of a new network within social-environmental psychology.
