Abstract

Atmospheric CO2 enrichment may provide the benefits of higher yields, but, concomitantly, it could worsen yield quality in terms of protein, amino acid and mineral content. Currently, almost half of the world's human population already suffers from micronutrient deficiencies, and this global health problem will further deteriorate as a result of CO2 enrichment. On the other hand, an increase in temperature and changing precipitation patterns may reduce yield, while having a positive effect on nurtitive value and processing.
