The crystals of TiP2S6 are orthorhombic, space group Fdd2, with a 10.842(4), b 7.440(5), and c 21.535(6) .ANG.; d.(exptl.) = 2.28 and d.(calcd.) = 2.31 for Z = 8. The structure was detd. by direct methods and refined by least-squares to R = 0.112. The structure consists of P2S64- groups formed by P-P bond linkage of 2 PS3 groups with P atoms in tetrahedral coordination. The Ti atoms are octahedrally coordinated to 6 Satoms and link the P2S64- groups into a 3-dimensional network.
