Rapeseed meal (RSM) is still gaining importance as protein supplement in ruminants due to its high content of undegraded crude protein (UDP), its domestic origin, availability, reasonable pricing and absence of genetically rendered material. Recently, we confirmed the high UDP level in RSM of German origin being 46±6 % calculated for a ruminal passage rate of 8 %/h (1). At high UDP levels, amino acids (AA) composition and intestinal digestibility of UDP moves into focus due to its significance for the AA supply of the animal. Therefore, we have studied ruminal degradation of individual AA and in vitro crude protein (CP) digestibility of UDP of RSM.
