Abstract

Distilled dried grains with soluble (DDGS) are well recognized as protein supplements for ruminants, but can substantially vary in protein quality between different batches. In high producing dairy cows, the undegradable fraction of crude protein (UDP) represents an important source of amino acids (AA). The knowledge of the amount of AA from UDP entering the intestine (especially lysine and methionine) and of the intestinal digestibility of UDP is a prerequisite for assessing AA supply for the animal. Therefore, the aim of the study was to compare and characterize the ruminal degradation of CP and AA and the in vitro digestibility of UDP of different DDGS products
