Abstract

Many techniques to measure variation within agricultural fields have been developed over the last decades. The measurements lead to optimised treatment decisions on a subfield level: fields are divided into management zones, which are the areas of identical treatment. A research infrastructure was established in 2009 at the University of Hohenheim, to strengthen the collaboration between researchers of different disciplines working on Precision Farming technology. SenGIS, Competence Centre for Sensors and Geoinformation Systems, develops and maintains two infrastructure components and provides technical assistance for them. A sensor platform Sensicle was designed for simultaneous georeferenced measurements with different sensors in the field. Additionally a storage component for Precision Farming geodata is developed to enforce the usage of standardised data formats and web services. Schemes are developed for the integration of the multisensor platform measurements into a geodatabase. The geodatabase serves multiple purposes like data provision for research partners, easier search and identification of existing data sets and visualisation in web based mapping components. Different sub-projects such as the improvement of on-farm-research design trials, the development of a site-specific weed control decision system and the comparison of different sensors are part of the research efforts.
