By means of reductive electropolymn. of [Ru-(4-methyl-4'-vinylbipyridine)3](PF6)2, thin polymer films of about 5 to 100 monolayers are produced on different substrate electrodes. Chiral coatings are obtained when optically resolved [Ru(vbpy)3](PF6)2 is used. The polycationic films are resistant to penetration by cations, they have an insulating passive and a conducting state. The polymer electrode assemblies were characterized by cyclic voltammetry and electrochem. impedance spectroscopy. In the conducting state Nernst behavior is obsd., conductance is high and Butler-Volmer kinetics at the polymer/supporting electrode interface det. the behavior of the electrode assembly.
