Kurzzeitprogramm: Uganda Next Generation Institute 2026  [04.11.25]

Applications are now open for the 2026 Next Generation Institute, a 10-day immersive program taking place March 14–23, 2026 in Kamuli, Uganda. The institute is a unique opportunity to bring together advanced students and practitioners from the U.S., Europe, and Africa to engage in a transformative learning experience on “Designing and Managing Sustainable Rural Livelihood Programs”.

The Next Generation Institute is designed to increase the understanding of sustainable rural development and empower future and current practitioners with the skills and knowledge necessary to excel in development practice. Participants will earn a certificate of successful completion to be awarded at the end of the institute.

By participating in the institute, participants will gain practical experience and skills needed to make a meaningful impact in the field of rural development. Upon completion, participants will be able to:

     

  1. Describe and explain components of high-impact activities used in sustainable rural livelihood programs. 
  2. Examine good practices used in rural development programs and integrate these into project designs. 
  3. Create a new project design for use in a sustainable rural development program. 
  4.  

The institute will take place at Iowa State University’s Mpirigiti Rural Training Center, in Kamuli, Uganda. Faculty co-leaders include Dr. Francis Owusu, ISU Associate Dean for Global Engagement, Gideon Nadiope, National Director of Iowa State University-Uganda Program, Catherine Swoboda, ISU Associate Director for Community Engagement, and others.
