Die neue ELLS Summer School „Biodiversity through Time: Collections-based Research at a Natural History Museum“
wird organisiert von der Universität Hohenheim und dem Staatlichen Museum für Naturkunde Stuttgart (SMNS).
Vom 6. bis 24. Juli 2026 taucht ihr ein in die Welt der Biodiversität: von Ökosystemen über interspezifische bis hin zu intraspezifischer Vielfalt, erforscht anhand von Sammlungen ausgestorbener und lebender Arten.
Die Summer School kombiniert wissenschaftliche Vorträge, interaktive Praktika und Feldexkursionen, um die zentrale Rolle naturkundlicher Sammlungen in der modernen Biodiversitätsforschung zu zeigen. Durch den Austausch mit Forschenden aus unterschiedlichen Disziplinen erhalten Teilnehmende ein einzigartiges Verständnis für die Verbindung von Evolutionsbiologie, Ökologie und Naturschutz und werden inspiriert, die komplexen Herausforderungen der Biodiversitätssicherung in einer sich rasch verändernden Welt gemeinsam zu meistern.

The new ELLS Summer School „Biodiversity through Time: Collections-based Research at a Natural History Museum“
is organized by the University of Hohenheim and the State Museum of Natural History Stuttgart (SMNS).
From 6 to 24 July 2026, dive into the world of biodiversity: explore ecosystem, interspecific, and intraspecific diversity - studied through collections of extinct and extant species.
The program combines scientific lectures, hands-on practical sessions, and field excursions to highlight the central role of natural history collections in modern biodiversity research. By engaging with researchers from diverse disciplines, participants will gain a unique understanding of the connections between evolutionary biology, ecology, and conservation and be inspired to collaboratively address the complex challenges of biodiversity conservation in a rapidly changing world.
