If there are more applicants to the first semester of a degree program with a limited number of places than there are places available, then the selection is made according to the following criteria in the order given:

1.

Advance admission

Preference will be given to applicants who had already been admitted and were not able to accept the place. Reasons for this can be, for example: Voluntary social year, federal voluntary service, military service. To begin your studies after your service ends, you must reapply and submit a copy of your previous admission letter and service certificate.

2.

Advance quotas

Separate study places are provided for some applicant groups:

3.

Remaining university places

90% University selection procedure

The selection criteria are specified individually for each degree program. Criteria may include:

  • Average grade for the university entrance qualification (HZB)
  • Weighted individual grades of the university entrance qualification
  • Selection interview
  • Extracurricular/vocational qualifications

10% Waiting time

Every half year that passes after you acquire your university entrance qualification and you are not enrolled at a university in Germany is automatically counted as a waiting semester. In principle, a maximum of seven waiting semesters will be considered. The study places are awarded in order, starting with the applicants with the most waiting semesters. The grades of the university entrance qualification do not play a role here.
