On this day, visitors of all ages were able to take a look behind the scenes of the university. From a stock market game to making food from a 3D printer to exploring flavors, the grass biorefinery, the Marshmallow Challenge, and medical cannabis research, the Open Day’s diverse program allowed visitors to explore a wide variety of research areas.
The Hohenheim Gardens opened its doors and offered insights into the collection greenhouse as well as guided tours of the medicinal plant garden. The Food Science Technical Center showed how they make meatless sausage, while the Distillery for Research and Teaching focused on the production of alcohol. For those who wanted to visit the barn, there was an opportunity to do so at the Agricultural Experiment Station. A shuttle bus ensured that all stations on campus could be reached easily.
School pupils, prospective students, and current students received comprehensive information on choosing a degree program. They were able to find out about the various options at a prospective student information island. Numerous program points and lectures provided insights into the respective study contents and conveyed interesting aspects from the Faculties of Natural Sciences; Business, Economics and Social Sciences; and Agricultural Sciences.
Children were encouraged to discover their curiosity and spirit of exploration through hands-on activities. They had the opportunity to take home potted sunflowers, accompany a swarm of bees in their search for the queen, talk with Queen Olga, or laugh with a clown.
Hohenheim students and various food trucks provided a wide range of culinary delights and refreshments. The summer open air concert of the Concert Band invited guests to relax and end the day.
