Job vacancies

Academic position

Research Associate (PhD position, m/f/d) 50% EG 13 TV-L

To support research and teaching in the field of chemical and molecular ecology of trophic plant-insect interactions, we are looking for a highly motivated PhD candidate (from July 1st, 2024, for a period of three years). Main research questions of the lab are how plants react to herbivores and thereby integrate different environmental stimuli, the evolution of plant responses to ecological interactions, as well as mechanistic interactions and trade-offs between different plant adaptation strategies. We use a spectrum of ecological (bioassay, greenhouse and field experiments), chemical and molecular methods to address these questions. We offer a diverse field of work with creative freedom, a cooperative and dedicated team, the opportunity to do a doctorate in a graduate program and additional offers from the university for employees (e.g. additional company pension scheme, university sports, JobTicket BW).

Central tasks: Involvement in the labs research projects (conducting experiments, method development, chemical and molecular analyses, experiment evaluation and documentation) and in teaching (including courses given in German).   Qualification requirements: We seek for highly motivated candidates with great interest in chemical and molecular ecology. A master's degree or diploma in biology, environmental sciences or a related subject is preconditioned. Experience with ecological experiments and knowledge in data analysis and statistics are required. Ideally, candidates are familiar with multivariate statistics (e.g. using R), analytic techniques (e.g. HPLC-DAD, LC-MS, GC-MS) and/or molecular methods (e.g. qPCR, CRISPR/Cas). We expect you to work independently, be an active member of the team and to have very good written and spoken English skills.

Application deadline : 29.05.2024
