General Students' Committee

The General Students' Committee (German: Allgemeiner Studierendenausschuss) or AStA, is the acting executive board and the external representing agency of the (constituted) student body at universities in most German states. It is therefore considered the student government and student representative organization. The AStA fulfils a similar function as the Students' Union at a British university.

The task of the student council comprising the social promotion of students, the needs of students with children and students with disabilities, the promotion of intellectual, musical and sporting interests of students, the overarching study affairs of students and the promotion of inter-regional and international student cooperation.

The student council has selected currently nine by the student parliament ( StuPa ) members. Member of the student council can be every student, as long as he is elected by the stupa and the maximum number of members is not exceeded. Every student is welcome!
